Basalt roving
High tensile strength and cheaper than carbon fiber
250 filaments are rolled up on a spinning cake. This number of filaments corresponds to the linear tenacity 100 tex.
Depending on the velocity of spinning, the linear tenacity can be adjusted between 70 tex and 150 tex.
The spinning cake is assembled to a roving in the next step. Linear tenacity of the assembled roving can be adjusted as desired by the customer ranging from 70 tex to 4800 tex.
During the spinning process, the sizing process plays a big role for the protection of the fiber and for the future matrix composite. Sizing protects the fiber and assures adhesion with different resins. Sizing is applicated in two steps. In the first step it takes place directly under the bushing and in the second step during the assembling process, while forming the roving. Flexibility during the sizing application allows to combine different sizing types and amounts and in doing so, to find convenient solutions for different resins.
Properties of basalt roving
